Your Google Business Profile Is Your Best Salesperson
When a homeowner searches "roofer near me," Google shows three things at the top: paid ads, the map pack, and organic results. Most people click the map pack. That's your Google Business Profile. It's free. It's the first thing they see. And most roofers I audited barely use it.
Here's what a good GBP actually looks like.
Claim it. Now.
I found 11 roofers in Atlanta whose profiles were unclaimed. That means anyone can edit their phone number, hours, or address. You can't respond to reviews. You can't post updates. It's like having a storefront with the door unlocked and the lights off.
Claiming your profile takes 10 minutes. Go to business.google.com, verify you own the business (usually by postcard or phone), and you're done. If you haven't done this, stop reading and do it now.
Photos every week
The average roofer I audited had 5 photos on their profile. The top performers had 40 to 70. Photos of finished roofs. Photos of crews working. Photos of materials. Photos of the neighborhood. Every photo is a signal to Google that your business is active. And every photo is a chance for a homeowner to see your work before they call.
Posts twice a week
Google lets you publish posts directly to your profile. Most roofers never do. The ones who do get more visibility. A Google post can be a photo of a finished job with a short caption. It can be a link to a blog article. It can be a seasonal reminder — "get your roof inspected before hurricane season." It takes 60 seconds. It tells Google you're alive.
At Tradecraft, we handle this for our clients. Fresh posts every week. The profile never goes dormant.
Reviews, obviously
Your review count and your review rating are the two most visible things on your profile. More reviews = more clicks = more calls. But you also need to reply to them. A profile with 40 reviews and zero replies looks abandoned. A profile with 40 reviews and 40 replies looks like a business that cares.
