How to Get More Google Reviews for Your Roofing Company
I audited 55 roofing companies in Atlanta. The average review count was about 8. The top performers had 50 to 80. That is not a coincidence. That is a system.
Reviews are the single most powerful ranking factor for local businesses on Google. A roofer with 80 reviews and a 4.8 rating will outrank a roofer with 8 reviews and a 5.0 rating every single time. Google trusts volume. Homeowners trust volume. More reviews means more calls.
Here's the system.
1. Ask at the right time
The best time to ask for a review is right after the job is done. The roof looks great. The customer is happy. They're standing there looking at it. That's the moment. If you wait a week, they've moved on. If you send an email three days later, it goes to the bottom of their inbox.
A text message that goes out the same day the crew finishes — "Hey, the roof looks great. If you're happy with the work, would you mind leaving us a quick Google review? Here's the link." That converts at 30-40%.
2. Make it one click
Generate your Google review link. Every roofer should have this saved in their phone. When the customer says yes, text them the link immediately. Don't make them search for your business on Google. Don't make them figure out how to leave a review. One click, one link, done.
Your review link looks like this: https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=YOURPLACEID. Get your Place ID from Google, plug it in, save it.
3. Reply to every review
This is the part most roofers skip. When someone leaves a five-star review, reply to it. Thank them by name. Mention the neighborhood or the type of work you did. This does two things: it makes the customer feel appreciated, and it signals to Google that you're an active, engaged business. Google rewards businesses that reply to reviews.
4. Automate it
This is what we do at Tradecraft. After every completed job, a review request goes out automatically via SMS. The customer clicks the link, leaves the review, and you get notified. No remembering. No chasing. No missed opportunities. The system runs while you're on the next roof.
If you're doing 100 roofs a year and you're not sending review requests after every single one, you're leaving 70+ reviews on the table. That's the difference between page two of Google and the top three spots.
