Instagram for Roofers: What Actually Works
I see roofers on Instagram doing two things wrong. Either they're not on it at all, or they're posting content that homeowners don't care about. Drone shots are nice. "We're the best" captions are useless. Here's what actually moves the needle for a local roofing company on Instagram.
Show the work, not the drone
Homeowners don't care about your drone. They care about the roof you put on a house that looks like theirs. Before-and-after shots. Close-ups of flashing and ridge caps. Video walkthroughs of a finished roof. Photos from the roof showing the neighborhood. That's the content that makes someone think "I want that for my house."
Tag the neighborhood
Every post should tag the city or neighborhood where you did the work. If you replaced a roof in Virginia-Highland, tag Virginia-Highland. If you did a repair in East Cobb, tag East Cobb. Instagram surfaces local content to local users. A homeowner in Decatur scrolling Instagram is more likely to see a post tagged Decatur than a post tagged "Atlanta Roofing Company."
Use Reels, not just photos
Instagram is pushing Reels hard. A 15-second Reel of a roof walk or a before-and-after montage gets more reach than a photo post by a factor of 3-5x. You don't need fancy editing. Hold your phone, walk the roof, show the work. That's it.
Don't try to be an influencer
You're not building a national brand. You're building a local reputation. 300 followers in your ZIP code who might actually hire you is worth more than 3,000 followers across the country who never will. Post for your market, not for the algorithm.
